Dubai Events & Promotions Establishment (DEPE), the government authority behind DSF, DSS, Eid in Dubai and Ramadan in Dubai, is mandated by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing to increase tourism in Dubai and attract 15 million tourists by the year 2015.
Though the scope of DEPE has widened since it was first established in 1996 as Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), its initial objective remains the same: to make Dubai one of the world’s top tourist destinations. With this in mind, DEPE tasked Flip with the development of a website that would be an all-encompassing online calendar of events in Dubai – from major conferences and exhibitions to training seminars and music concerts.
Working closely with DEPE and their affiliated agencies, Flip helped extend the new brand online through a complete solution, which covered not only visual design and functional development, but a complete content strategy development, content research, sourcing and development as well as an innovative scoring system to dynamically position events within the website as ‘Major’, ‘Medium’ or ‘Small’ on the basis of a number of variables. Dubai calendar has become the one-stop shop for all events happening in the city, providing useful, pertinent event details in an eye-catching and engaging format providing the user with the information to have a true Dubai experience.
The website was well-received at its launch at the Arabian Travel Market 2011 and Flip looks forward to further developing the site with more content, applications and images.
