Dubai International Film Festival 2007
The Dubai International Film Festival is still fairly new to the film world, but it already has gained international recognition. For the 4th year in a row the Dubai International Film Festival has turned to Flip to grab the attention of curious web-users from across the globe.
The Challenge
Still a newcomer in the film industry, many people know that the Dubai International Film Festival exists, but that’s about it. While a site already existed it was out of date and needed a revamping. The challenge was how to spread the word globally with relevant information about the festival.
The past years were a success and those curious about DIFF were soon heading to the website for more information. Flip’s job was to impress those and give them something to remember DIFF by and for those who knew nothing about it, well, they do now.
The Solution
Like everything in Dubai, the Dubai International Film Festival is an elegant event, but still has quite the urban/underground mentality to it. Although DIFF attracts many of the big names in Hollywood, the films presented are independent, which allows for the directors and producers to maintain the films as an art, rather than merely a form of profit.
DIFF needed a website that reflected this. With past success the Dubai International Film Festival turned to the Tarantino of web design, Flip, for the 4th year in a row to bring the essence of DIFF to interactive media.
The Results
There were 4 phases to the site:
Phase 1 was meant to generate hype about the event and increase awareness by showing the latest news about DIFF and giving access to archived films and image galleries.
Phase 2 (coinciding with phase 1) was designed to present the films through a film finder. This enables users to locate previous films that perhaps the user has heard about, but not yet seen.
Phase 3 allows for all relevant information regarding the film festival to be accessed by those who view the site in order for them to be fully informed.
Phase 4 is completely for after the event has passed. Phase 4 allows for people to fully access all archived films and any relevant information pertaining to DIFF in all past years.
Throughout the design Flip presented relevant information for the curious, while still aesthetically/functionally impressing site-users. With a simple black background and vibrantly displayed photographs, Flip designed a site that is elegant, relevant and memorable.
