After a long week at work, the weekend is close by. My weekends usually involve a good mel and rest & relaxation with the family. My parents wanted to go for Friday lunch with me and my relatives so we decided to try a new property developement in Dubai which has many restaurants & entertainment venues.
After a quick Google search, I found the website. The basic information was there along with the usual corporate information but I couldn’t find any of the information that I really needed: restaurant names and operating timings, a contact number and location map.
I then tried to find online reviews of the restaurant as all I had heard was word-of-mouth so finding some tangible reviews would help make my decision. Again, my search could not find anything. My last attempt was to ring the number mentioned on the website but no one would answer and the voicemail seemed as if I was ringing the corporate office and not the actual property development.
At this point I’ve given up and now have chosen another venue for my family’s weekend indulgence. It’s a shame because I was really looking forward to it but if I can’t find the basic information then it’s hard to make my decision.
Its times like this which make me realize how important the basics are in the website design process. The basics of website design are often missed for many reasons but if ignored then website visitors won’t be able to find the most important information and also won’t see the information you want them to see as well.
- Layout: what content most important for your visitors?
- Navigation: make it easy to explore your site
- Colour: not only fit the brand but make your site look great
- Fonts: web friendly fonts and easy to read
