When it comes to social media in the region, Twitter tops the charts hands down. The National ran an exclusive story the other day, on the top twitter users in the region, and I'm proud that Flip has a strong presence in there, with an interview with me.

Launched globally in 2007, the social media platform that lets users update their Twitter status via micro-blogs of up to 140 characters was at first blocked in the UAE. It was unblocked by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in August 2008. Today, the site has more than 100 million users worldwide and an estimated 15,000 in the UAE with approximately 3,000 to 4,000 daily posters here.
Twitter sure is catching up in the UAE as more people are jumping in, and its become a new form of media, one thats fair, original, un-cut and powerful at the same time. That's what makes it different from the rest of the social media channels.
Still unsure ? Try tweeting about about a brand and its very likely that someone will come offering you help or asssitance, probably the company's CEO itself. When did that happen in the last ten years of your life ?
