The time has finally arrived for the long awaited telecom provider to launch their services. On february 11th the services will be rolled out and by the 25th people will start getting their SIM cards!
The time has finally arrived for the long awaited telecom provider to launch their services. On february 11th the services will be rolled out and by the 25th people will start getting their SIM cards! The press conference had an animated CEO Osama who talked the media through the offerings. Its good to see a CEO taking charge and full credit to him of not becoming just another boring press conference. Some of the highlights were.
Per Second Billing
In a simple example showing how much money we actually waste with the existing telecoms on our short phone calls, Mr Osama performed routine simple calls wiht a timer dispalying the savings you make with du, in English and Arabic!
The New Ad
A nice montage ad which just plays with the concept of life in seconds. It will be aired in 48 hours probably across all channels and online, luckily its a good ad so it shouldnt upset too many people!
Customer Service in 3 languages (English/Arabic/Hindi)
This i felt was a big plus. A lot of people forget that about 50% of the population actually speaks hindi. This should make a lot of people happy.
Video Calls
Cheaper when compared to Etisalat. And the best part is that they dont differentiate between their services. Its all bundled, so if your phone has the capabilities you dont need to subscribe to the function. I hope this means that 3G will finally take off properly in the region.
So the question is whether people will switch across to the new service. I personally have already booked my number, for a couple of reasons. The per second billing makes sense since most of my calls usually average less than 30 seconds. The other is to protect my number, cause i would hate if someone else started dialing my number but putting 055 instead of 050 and vice versa. Can you imagine how annoying that could be? Well anyways, let me know if you will make the switch.
