Open source technologies have always been a source of inspiration for me to develop new themes and plugins. I had been hearing about WordPress when I joined Flip Media around 4-5 years back. Encouraged by colleagues at the Flip, I started blogging on WordPress site and gradually picked up its nuances and dreamt of contributing in my own to the open source world.
My dream came true on in the end of 2008. I started my own blog powered by WordPress. My colleagues and friends helped me to set up the blog. I downloaded free themes from sites and started playing with that. Later I decided to develop my own WordPress theme. I was successful with that and you can see the WordPress theme which I have developed on my blog.
Plugins are an important tool on WordPress, helping it to extend its functionality. If you check the WordPress plugins site you can see there are thousands of plugins, developed by geeks around the world.
I found a jquery plugin (nyro Modal) which can be used as an alternative of thickbox. (Thickbox is a jquery plugin used for creating modal windows on websites. But its development has been stopped of late.) The new nyro modal is really very impressive. The application allows you to create for the potential of including inline content, images, flash videos. So I decided to develop a plugin which can be integrated in the WordPress without touching any code. The 'wp-nyro' plugin I developed has been approved by the WordPress.
At the time of writing, it got around 52 downloads within 3 days. It’s inspiring me to contribute more. Next time I will be creating a typographic related, SEO friendly WordPress theme for public. Hope I can make it shortly.
