Google Vs (Yahoo! + MSN) = ?

It seems that everybody has been struggling to keep up with Google, the objective has become "Keep your current audience", not even compete with Google, so what happens when Google controls 66% World Wide Search Share against 20% Yahoo! and a mere 8% MSN / Live search?

So Google has been dominant, Yahoo has been fairly ok, MSN…well….you know :)

It seems that everybody has been struggling to keep up with Google, the objective has become “Keep your current audience”, not even compete with Google, so what happens when Google controls 66% World Wide Search Share against 20% Yahoo! and a mere 8% MSN / Live search?

Most people (including falks at MSFT) believe that this would logically result in a merger between MSN and Yahoo!, or even MSN buying Yahoo! for that matter.

Despite the gap in search results share, Yahoo! are doing good with a 30% percentage of increase compared to their rates last year, while Google with only 24%, so race wise, Yahoo! are doing their job, unlike MSN who’s percentege of increase is -10% compared to their last year performance.

Yahoo! is online, while MSN (Microsoft) cannot take a step without looking back at PC, so how successful would a merger be?

Yahoo! owners are very proud of their brand, and very rich as well, so luring them with cash is not an easy task, unless they remain as independant as they are (like XBOX is to Microsoft). Yet again, if I owned Yahoo, I would prefer to see MSN drift into oblivion while my brand keeps kicking ass.

Assuming a merger is in progress as the rumors say, it would still be 66% Google against 28% MSN/Yahoo! world wide.

And taking a look at US market, it would still be Google 50.8% against 32% MSN/Yahoo! of US search share.

Hence, I would still invest my dollars on Google :)

I think competing with Google is out of hands for Micro$oft. The power of Google is the way they approach a problem and give solution. If M$ need to get back its market share it has to come up with something that works.

Google is using internet as base for it’s all application which is more accepted in the younger generation. Google know internet is part of everyones life these days. In the some countries they are planning to give internet for free. In some locations they have already done it. Whereas M$ cannot give up on the products and in the name of features they are asking for more resources and hardware.

One best part Google has come out is the online collaboration which is already kicking M$ @$$ very badly. Google claims that they give very basic features in online spreadsheet and documents. But more than 60% of word and excel users uses only that basic features and everything comes for free where you don’t worry about licensing and other issues.

Google is moving with generation and M$ cannot accept the change and move on. M$ played their monopoly now it Google’s time to play and they are playing it very well :-D

Sorry I forgot to mention this. The day M$ buys yahoo it will be the downfall of a huge portal. Yahoo will be really stupid if they ever do this.

‘Micro$oft’ - I take the clever transposition of the dollar sign for the ’s’ to indicate that Microsoft is a business that, above all, is about making money.

Google, on the other hand, is a business that…erm…

Hang on, let me just grab a dictionary and check the definition of ‘business’.

Google is doing great things for webmasters and bloggers, in rapid succession. Yes, there are some supplemental issues that they still need to fix wherein feed content overtakes original posts, and clicks on Google’s ads served would be great opening in a new window. But their proactive embracing of the net is working to their advantage. Hoping the remain that way because elephants can’t dance.

Google has gone past most of the web based applications and also the idea behind them is so simple. They inspire an idea behind the most popular Applications in the world and then they concentrate on the current issues on that application. Their unique strategy is the way they find the solution and their approach towards that. Their approach would be more user oriented no matter technical it is. As everybody knows that Gmail is one new approach to web based mail system which no body as of no has achieved. Microsoft or Yahoo or who ever has to understand that IT is always innovative and the market is always “Survival of the Fittest”
