Group aims to provide a platform for Linux users to share news and developments in the UAE.
May 5, 2009, Dubai-Flip Media is the corporate sponsor of the UAE Linux User Group, a non-profit organization created to share information on the power of the Linux operating system with a community of users and developers in the UAE. The group’s aim is provide a platform for Linux users to share news and developments on the operating system, get free demonstrations, training, and technical support. “The Linux OS is as strong as the community developing it. Our company philosophy has always been a bottom-up belief in our people and their contributions. Our programmers are very passionate about the power of Linux. By supporting this group, we aim to share knowledge and information that can benefit the greater media, technology and business communities in the UAE,” said Dinesh Lalvani, Managing Partner, Flip Media. Linux has become an increasingly popular and reliable operating system used by business in the last few years. It is a free to use, modify and redistribute, unlike Microsoft Windows or Mac OS. The platform is less focused on graphics and has a smaller footprint than Windows or Mac OS, taking up less memory and enabling faster loading. It is also considered a highly reliable platform. High profile companies and organizations like online retailer Amazon, the US Postal Service, and the German army use Linux for database and trading services. The platform operates on a wide range of hardware, running not only on workstations, but also PDA's, mobiles, embedded applications and even experimental wristwatches.
