The Big Three O

So my favourite tech company is turning 30 this week. Ironically on the first of April. The question is what's next in the offering, and where will I blow out my hard earned money! Its funny how a company with a small share of the market has such an impact on the technological revolution. Apple has always been regarded as The innovative company, always forging ahead with reliable software and sleek hardware. And under the helm of Steve Jobs, it continues to break the technological and design barriers. One of my favourite quote from him would be regarding Bill Gates, his old Nemesis...
"I wish him the best, I really do. I just think he and Microsoft are a bit narrow. He'd be a broader guy if he had dropped acid once or gone off to an ashram when he was younger. "
And after seeing The Pirates of Silicon Valley I see where he got some of his early inspration. But clearly the biggest challenge for Apple is now. With sales soaring, and the iPod catapulting the company back into the black, the race for digital convergence has never been hotter. What would I like to see next? I guess the one gadget that everyone wants from apple is the iPod Phone. Why? The real threat to the iPod gadgets is not the Creative Zen or the Rios, or the various mp3 players out there in the market. Its the likes of Sony Ericsson and Nokia and Samsung with the multimedia phones. If Apple want to stay alive, they need to launch the ultimate Mobile Phone. One that has the Audio Video Features of the iPod and the iLife capabilities of the OS X, and the design and ease of use that apple is famous for. So going through the net came across some really interesting prototype concepts from apple enthusiasts. Here are some of my favourites.

    Good to see that Apple's big day was noticed by someone. I like the iPod mockup ;-)

    Nitin,
    "windows-quality" as in most of the websites are made for windows users, I know it's wrong to say that but yeah, windows-quality browsing :)

    Btw, you could always grab Firefox and download some nice Tiger skin for it too.

    Camino is a solution when you want the sexy look of Safari and browsing experience of Firefox, but if you browse standard-based websites and do not worry about those ones that break then I recommand you Opera, no other browser beats its speed--not even Safari.

    I had a post on a-better-browser for x-browser testing some months ago. What's your's?

    I'll definitely try out Camino and let you know what I think, but I have to agree with Dinesh about Safari's speed.

    BTW dotone, don't you think "windows-quality" is an oxymoron? :O)
    Seriously, shouldn't it be a crime to use the words "Windows" and "quality" in the same sentence?

    Camino is great, but when it come to speed nothing comes close to Safari. Just head over to any flash based site and you see the difference in performance. Hopefully with the new Intel based macs, it wont be an issue. The other thing thats missing from camino and firefox is the syncing of bookmarks using the .mac service, and the RSS rendering rocks on Safari!

    I used to face the same thing Nitin. The work around is so easy and it's so sexy, it's called Camino. A browser with the beauty of Safari and the strength and accuracy of Firefox. Try out Camino and enjoy windows-quality surfing on a Mac machine in Mac style.

    As an avid iBook user, I'm a big fan of all things Apple.

    I just noticed that your blog is not completely Mac Safari friendly especially when i was reading the AMEinfo post where the image seemed to span into the nav bar at the right...

    I am quite disappointed that a lot of sites, even today, do not optimise their sites for viewing on non-Windows browsers.

    Try opening souq.com or timeoutdubai.com on a Mac running Safari.
    Is it just my iBook or are other Mac users facing this problem as well?
