Du-ing Things Differently

As interactive designers, we always keep our eye on the user journey--how can we give visitors a visually stimulating and functional web experience? The du website redesign was a goldmine of opportunity.

du-ing Things Differently

The first thing that struck us when assessing the old site for this telecom giant was the need to create a new thought process. The original site provided a lot of corporate information, but it didn’t really do much for the primary audience--du customers. A lot of the content was in there, but the navigation and complex architecture didn’t lead people to what they needed.

So we started by studying the IA (Information Architecture) and redesigning it from the customer's point of view. From accessing information to making decisions, the idea was to give control to the customer through optimized navigation.

We created large spotlights in the middle of the page to help position du’s branding prominently while also giving the customer an easy to use functional space to browse around.  Instead of spanning across multiple pages, information was consolidated and packaged within a ThickBox. This helps in simplifying decision making for customers. From the client’s perspective, plans and services offered were of utmost importance, so designs were tailored around them. Also adding a footer at the bottom of the screen was a simple way to enable easy navigation.

One of du’s main goals for the site was to convert site visitors into customers, so we gave prominent screen presence to the shopping cart icon. Visually too, the site was enhanced with complementary images, feature related icons and content presentation.

Though the process took time, as each day passed we refined the designs to make it look better and act more functionally. The outcome is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) website, that's very user-friendly.

So it’s finally time to roll out the red carpet and unveil the du website redesign. This one is a real feather in our cap.
